This 4-day intensive workshop offers you the chance to deepen your skills in SFX makeup under the guidance of Stuart Bray, a respected artist with over 30 years of experience in film and television.

We’ll focus on the creation and application of realistic injuries using the open mould technique – a precise, efficient method to produce wounds such as cuts, burns, swelling, and scars with professional-level detail. You’ll learn how to adapt these techniques for both deep and light skin tones, with special attention paid to color matching, texture, and finish.

In collaboration with camera students from KONRAD WOLF Filmuniversity, we’ll explore how lighting and camera setups influence the appearance of makeup on screen. Together, we’ll analyze how wounds, blood effects, and aging hold up under different lighting conditions – and what we can adjust in real time to maintain realism on set.

We’ll also cover aging techniques, including stretch & stipple and fine detailing, as well as blood rigging for controlled bleeds, sprays, and spurts.

This workshop brings two departments together – makeup and camera – for a shared learning experience that’s as much about collaboration as it is about technique.
